In December 2023, we successfully passed the Knowledge Management Standard audit for the 11th consecutive time.
When we think of the "Standards Institute", many of us associate it with safety and health, which are concrete concepts. However, the Knowledge Management Standard is different. Defined as a less tangible asset, knowledge requires a different approach. While safety standards establish a minimum threshold, the Knowledge Management Standard, along with other management standards (quality, social responsibility, risk management, etc.), signifies excellence. It outlines requirements and sets a high bar for organizations to meet, enabling them to proudly achieve and display their adherence.
Much has been written about the necessity of effectively managing organizational knowledge and its role in organizational development. The Knowledge Management Standard is a document containing requirements and guidelines for organizations aiming to operate optimally, by implementing Knowledge Management processes to align with their needs and goals.
In recent years, I actively participated in preparing for the annual standard audit. The year-round activities, preparations for the audit session with the auditor, and the actual audit day celebrate the pinnacle of Knowledge Management. During the audit, ROM representative presents our activities and documents to the Standards Institution of Israel auditor , showcasing how we implement the guidelines and requirements. This encapsulates the collective efforts of all employees throughout the year, contributing equally to our success in meeting the standard's requirements.
While Knowledge Management is ingrained in ROM's ethos and practices, our commitment to meeting standard requirements guides us in managing diverse activities, and striving for continuous improvement.
Our objective, as a leading Knowledge Management organization, extends beyond mere certification. We aim to foster an organizational culture that supports daily sharing, consultation, documentation, and accessibility of both tacit and explicit knowledge, accumulated by employees over time. This includes a dedication to the ongoing development of our knowledge.
Apart from routinely updating documents that record monthly organizational activities, and in preparation for the audit, we convene for a self-assessment before the Standards Institute's audit. This evaluation against the previous year's defined goals and the setting of targets for the upcoming year, aligned with standard requirements and guidelines, allows us to assess ourselves systematically. Our goal is to promote and establish Knowledge Management processes that propel us toward our next objectives.
Upon completing each audit, we initiate preparations for the subsequent one. We view the certification process as an opportunity for development and advancement, pushing ourselves toward excellence in Knowledge Management and organizational continuity. The standard's demand for continuous improvement prompts us to raise the bar annually, refining and redefining our aspiration for excellence.
If your organization is seeking an opportunity to progress further on the path to excellence in Knowledge Management, feel free to contact us. We would be delighted to support you on your journey to the next stage.
