Prioritizing, deciding, and balancing

In our modern day and age, a time in which managing and prioritizing tasks while maintaining optimal productivity is becoming an extremely challenging component of our ability to provide our customers with the best solutions, it’s best to apply an orderly strategy. Such will allow us to lead the task or project optimally while meeting its objectives as required.

Prioritizing our tasks is a very important component in our ability to reach results successfully and according to schedule. When we handle a certain project or task that we must complete by a certain date, it is very easy to get confused when receiving multiple requests simultaneously from development, support, and others. This is when we, experts of only our specific role, must buckle down not only for our customers but for our equally important personal mental and physical well-being and ability to successfully operate in this outpour of tasks.

Here are three aspects one should consider:

Prioritizing tasks

Making decisions

Balancing our personal life and work

The first aspect is prioritizing tasks, labeling the most urgent and important tasks (i.e., most affects the organization as a whole) and the less urgent and important. When we handle an important task, large project, or important report, we must know how to focus on our important task, understanding its importance by analyzing its effect on the organization at the moment. The wider the task’s effect on the organization, the higher we must prioritize it. While there are other tasks to be handled, it is very important not to be distracted and make decisions rationally. One hint that may assist us in assessing a task’s importance is the time allocated for its completion.

This leads us to the second aspect: decision making. Our quality of performance also depends on our ability to decide whether a task is urgent or can be postponed in favor of other tasks so to meet the objectives. Prioritizing tasks and making decisions, supports our ability to adapt an agile work pattern and allows us to focus each time on one product of the project’s finished product. When we wish to meet the goals assigned for a project or task, we must sometimes assertively recommend to our customers what is best and not allow them to lead us in the decision-making. It is very important to know how to present the required work and what it entails to our customers, in order to attain the finished product. Furthermore, instead of instructing us what must be done and by when, our customers collaborate with us and work on the project beside us.

Finally, but equally important, balance. When we meet our urgent and important tasks and provide optimal support, we can prioritize tasks and meet them according to schedule. We can thus attain healthy work patterns which allow a balance between home and work. The modern worker’s day can be rich and productive, filled with meetings, Emails, and ongoing work. However, it is important to know when to stop and understand that it is possible and preferable to handle them tomorrow, allowing a more correct balance between our professional and personal life, maintaining our mental health and well-being.

In conclusion, we must learn to manage our tasks broadly, breaking large tasks into smaller ones, which we can present to the customer. We will then be able to meet requirements while maintaining our health and ability to function. This is as important to the
