Web 3.0 in a nutshell

In the age of Web 1.0, the internet’s abilities were limited to data consumption. During web 2.0, we reached the point where anyone can purchase goods, create content, and efficiently communicate with others. Web 3.0 is supposed to provide users with more excellent value and advanced abilities previously unavailable.

Web 3.0, the third generation of internet and app services, features several characteristics:

  • Distribution: storing the data in a blockchain (thousands of different computers) will enable a content-oriented search rather than an address-oriented one (data located in a particular address and stored on a specific server). It will prevent companies like Google and Facebook/Meta control over their customers’ information.

  • Personalized quality content: connection to AI will enable the creation and transmission of quality personalized content efficiently and quickly.

  • Context-dependent content (semantic network as more efficient use of content found on the web).

  • IoT (Internet of Things): connecting other devices, such as refrigerators, cars, or televisions, creating a better connection and understanding of the users.

The objective is to create a “clear,” fair network in which we can all participate without losing our privacy (almost…).

The advantages of Web 3.0

  • Benefits edge users

  • Identifying personal preferences and personalizing online surfing experiences

  • More precise search results

  • Viewing relevant and valuable ads

  • More privacy and personal data security

  • Benefits suppliers

  • Greater control of online data

  • Better understanding of potential customers’ purchase demands

  • Protection from threats or hackers

The disadvantages of Web 3.0

  • Requires changing and adapting existing websites (Web 3.0 will display websites from previous ‘generations’ in an old-fashioned manner).

  • Are not yet fully supported technologically

  • The distribution may make the regulation and inspection more difficult

Developing Web 3.0 will enable us to produce intelligent products and cities, a substantial improvement in data security and privacy, and an incorporation of technology as an integral part of our daily lives. The edge user will have full ownership of their data.

People will substantially use the internet more.

Whether this is an advantage or disadvantage is debatable and is probably a matter of perspective, but it seems inevitable.
